Texas Longhorns No. 1 in final Oracle/ITA Rankings
Thursday, 07/25/2019

Austin, Texas – After winning its first National Championship in school history, the Texas Men's Team was ranked No. 1 in the final Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Rankings released Wednesday by the ITA.

It marked the first time the team has been ranked No. 1 at the end of a season after finishing second in 2008 and 1955. Earlier this season, the Longhorns reached No. 1 for the first time in a midseason poll. Texas has been ranked No. 1 or No. 2 in the last five polls with their last time being ranked that high prior to that stretch coming at No. 2 in 2009.

In defeating Wake Forest, 4-1, in the championship match, the Longhorns secured their 29th win of the season to just three losses. All three losses came against teams ranked in the top 10 and which Texas also defeated in a second meeting during the season. The 29 wins are the most in school history since 1974 (31-18), during an era when a significant number more matches were played in a season.
