Texas takes three singles and doubles titles at Southwest Shootout

Junior Daniel Whitehead wins the main singles draw, while Whitehead and classmate Ben Chen take the doubles title.
FORT WORTH, Texas – Texas junior Daniel Whitehead capped a strong fall season by winning the singles title and teaming with junior Ben Chen to win the doubles title Sunday in the Southwest Shootout at TCU’s Friedman Tennis Center.
Whitehead faced off against teammate Soren Hess-Olesen in the finals of the “A” singles bracket, and Hess-Olesen retired after Whitehead assumed a 4-1 opening-set lead. Whitehead and Chen took on the Texas tandem of Hess-Olesen and junior Alex Hilliard in the finals of the “A” doubles bracket and claimed an 8-6 victory.
Sophomore Sudanwa Sitaram won the “C” singles flight after defeating Hilliard by a 6-4, 6-2 count in the finals. Sitaram and freshman Jacoby Lewis added an 8-5 win over Texas Tech’s Raphael Pfister and Jeff Bryan in the third-place match of the “B” doubles flight.
