No. 19 Texas Longhorns Fall to No. 15 Baylor
Friday, 04/19/2013

AUSTIN, Texas - After a one-hour rain delay, University of Texas men's tennis lost a 6-1 decision to conference-leader Baylor on Wednesday night at Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
"We got beat in every possible way," head coach Michael Center said. "They played with more energy. They were more aggressive. They took it to us early in both the singles and the doubles. They did everything better than us."
The Longhorns (14-7, 2-2 Big 12) lose for just the second time at home this season and the first time against a team from the ITA Texas Region (5-1). With the win, Baylor (18-4, 4-0 Big 12) clinches at least a share of the Big 12 regular season title.
In doubles, the Bears withstood all but one Texas rally to earn the first point of the dual. After falling to a 4-1 deficit at No. 1 singles, Ben Chen and Daniel Whitehead stayed pace with Mate Zsiga and Diego Galeano for the remainder of the match until an 8-5 Baylor win.
UT's top two singles players, Søren Hess-Olesen and Lloyd Glasspool, took to the doubles court together for just the second time of the dual match season, facing Baylor's Tony Lupieri and Julian Lenz at the No. 3 position. Hess-Olesen and Glasspool lost 8-6 but not before trimming a four-point deficit (6-2) to one point (7-6). Lupieri and Lenz held serve to clinch the match and the doubles point for the Bears.
Chris Camillone and Sudanwa Sitaram defeated Patrick Pradella and Roberto Maytin, 8-6, in No. 2 doubles in a match that featured five ties.
Lloyd Glasspool represented the Longhorns' lone point of the night after earning a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles. Glasspool persevered through two tiebreakers in his victory, improving to 14-4 in singles on dual match season.
"I think Lloyd has the potential to be one of the best players in the country," Center said. "He is learning how to compete and he is a super talent. If he continues to listen and continues to develop he has a chance to be a really good tennis player."
Baylor won the other five singles matches, including a match-clinching win at No. 4 singles as Baylor's Tony Lupieri defeated Sudanwa Sitaram (6-3, 6-4). It was Sitaram's first singles loss at home this season (7-1).
The Longhorns conclude regular season play on Sunday, April 21 against Texas Tech in Austin. First serve for Senior Day is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
