WOMEN’S TENNIS STOPPED BY PRINCETON, 4-2
2-28-09

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – A singles victory from sophomore Kateryna Yergina was not enough for Virginia Commonwealth University, which fell to Princeton, 4-2, Saturday.

The Rams, who had won three consecutive matches, slip to 8-5 on the year. Princeton is 9-4.

Yergina improved to 9-6 this season and 7-5 in dual matches with a 6-2, 6-4 defeat of Hilary Bartlett on the No. 2 court. Yergina also picked up a win at No. 2 doubles.

The Black and Gold jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match behind Yergina and Laura Burns, as well as junior Olena Leonchuk and Mihaela Bunea, who earned a victory on the No. 3 doubles court.

However, the Tigers won four of five singles contests to secure the win.

VCU returns to action on Sunday, March 1 when it hosts Winthrop at 2 p.m. at the Thalhimer Tennis Center.
