RAMS’ STREAK REACHES FOUR WITH 5-2 WIN OVER SAINT MARY’S

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Sisters Ana and Alex Bara toppled one of the nation’s best doubles tandems, and sophomore Kateryna Yergina won her eighth consecutive singles match in Virginia Commonwealth University’s 5-2 victory over Saint Mary’s Sunday at UNLV’s Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The victory is the Rams’ fourth straight and improves them to 13-5 on the year.

The Bara sisters paved the way to a VCU victory on the doubles courts, defeating 52nd ranked Alexandra Poorta and Claire Soper, 8-2.

Meanwhile, Yergina kept rolling on the singles courts, dropping Anna Chikhikvishvili, 6-4, 6-2 at second position. Yergina is 14-6 overall and 12-5 in dual matches this year.

Alex Bara also tacked on a singles triumph Sunday, earning a 6-0, 6-1 win over Mara Calvo on the No. 4 court.

Junior Olena Leonchuk and freshman Mihaela Bunea also picked up singles victories for the Rams.

VCU returns to action on Sunday, March 22 when it hosts UNC Greensboro at 11 a.m. at the Thalhimer Tennis Center.
