Western Michigan Upsets No. 45 East Tennessee State, 4-3

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Western Michigan men's tennis team stormed back from a 3-1 deficit to upset No. 45 East Tennessee State, 4-3, at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis on Sunday afternoon.

Freshman Pablo Olivarez finished off a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles over Alex Ahlgren to complete the comeback for the Broncos (9-6) and end a four-game skid.

The Broncos opened by taking the doubles point from the Buccaneers (1-6) as Olivarez and Casey Cullen took an 8-3 win at No. 3 to start it off. ETSU came back to win at No. 1, but then Kevin Hayward and Zeyad Montasser completed an 8-6 win at No. 2 to put WMU on top early, 1-0.

The Buccaneers were undaunted and rattled off wins at No. 5, No. 1 and No. 4 to take a commanding lead, 3-1.

Kazuya Komada cut into the lead by defeating Charles Bottoni 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 and then Michael Calderone defeated Grega Teraz 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 3 to set up Olivarez at No. 6.

The Broncos are off until next weekend when they head to Corpus Christi, Texas, for the HEB College Team Tennis Championships on March 6-7.
