The Mustangs, however, were eliminated from championship contention at the quarterfinal hurdle by California’s Alice Duranteau and Laura Posylkin, 8-4.

Webb returned in the White Singles bracket to produce a 7-5, 6-2 triumph against Santa Clara’s Stephanie Skaras in round of 32 play. In other action in the White Singles bracket round of 32 stage, Gatewood fell against San Francisco’s Melinda Akerbrandt (7-5, 6-2) while junior Ane McPike was topped by Tiffany Pham of UC Davis (7-5, 6-3).

In the Red Doubles bracket, junior Jennifer Cornea and freshman Louise Oxnevad combined in the consolation quarterfinal phase to defeat San Jose State’s Erica Medlin and Margot Charron, 8-1. The Mustang duo previously dropped an 8-3 decision against California’s Klara Fabikova and Lynn Chi in the round of 16.

In the White Doubles bracket quarterfinal consolation phase, McPike and freshman Sophia Bott teamed to deal the UC Davis pairing of Lauren Curry and Melsa Kobayakawa a 9-8 (4) defeat. McPike and Bott previously dropped an 8-4 decision against Washington’s Julija Lukac and Natali Coronel in the round of 16.

In the Blue Doubles round robin tournament, Mustang freshmen Anna Klavins and Haley Kepler fell against San Jose State’s Yurie Hashiguchi and Chau Truong, 8-0. Kepler was also defeated in the Blue Singles bracket by Sacramento State’s Siobhan Ryan Bovey at the round of 16 stage, 6-1, 6-3.

In the Red Singles bracket round of 32 stage, Oxnevad fell against Washington’s Andjela Nemcevic (7-5, 6-1) while Bott was bested by Jade Frampton of Saint Mary’s (4-6, 7-5, 6-1).
