Riverside, Calif. - Cypress traveled to La Sierra Thursday to take on the four-year NCAA Division III team. The Chargers controlled the action throughout the day not losing one set in the 9-0 sweep. Sophomore
Ben Thompson-Star was the leader for the Chargers winning 6-2, 6-0 in the number two singles spot and cleaning up in doubles 8-0.
Freshmen
Derek Porter and
Shesang Patel started Cypress off on the right foot with the first win of the day in doubles 8-1. Thompson-Star and freshman
Greg Druckenmiller followed with their 8-0 sweep. Number one doubles team freshmen
Sam Tozer and
Deondre Moss had the toughest time but fought back for the 8-6 win.
Patel finished first in singles as well with a quick 6-0, 6-0 win. Freshman
Samir Haikal clinched the team victory with his singles win in the number six spot (6-0, 6-0). Cypress then cruised from there for the sweep.
Cypress wins their first match of the season to improve to 1-1.
