Cypress Commands the Action in 8-1 Win

Cypress, Calif. - The Chargers were ready for action Tuesday after three rain delays over the past week. Cypress got back into the mix of things taking on El Camino and winning 8-1. Freshman Shesang Patel led the way in with a quick win in singles (6-0, 6-0) and then a win in doubles with partner freshman Derek Porter (6-0, 6-1).

Patel earned the first win of the day followed by Porter and freshman Samir Haikal. Freshman Greg Druckenmiller won in the fourth spot and the match was clinched with a win in the number one spot by freshman Sam Tozer. Sophomore Ben Thompson-Star finished out the sweep in singles. In doubles action, sophomore Corey Parker and the debut of freshman Henry Nguyen won in the number three spot followed by Patel and Porter. Cypress’s number one doubles team made up of Tozer and freshman Deondre Moss were upset losing their first doubles match of the season 2-6, 7-6, 11-9.

Cypress improves to 3-2 and has over a week off before starting conference play next Thursday. Cypress will travel to Fullerton to take on the Hornets at 2:00 pm and will then spend the weekend in San Diego to face San Diego City College and Southwestern College.
