Fullerton, Calif. - Orange Empire Conference tennis action began Thursday as Cypress headed to Fullerton to take on the undefeated Hornets on their home courts. Cypress stepped up to the challenge handing the Hornets their first loss as they won convincingly, 7-2. Freshman
Greg Druckenmiller led Cypress with the first win in singles 6-0, 6-3 in the number five spot, then winning in doubles with partner sophomore
Ben Thompson-Star 8-3 in the number three slot.
Druckenmiller started Cypress on the right foot with his win. Thompson Star followed with a win in the number three spot and freshman
Deondre Moss won in the number four spot. Freshman
Sam Tozer, suffering from illness, lost his first match of the season in the number one spot. A win by freshman
Samir Haikel followed by sophomore
Corey Parker’s win clinched the match for Cypress as they scored five of the possible nine points already. In doubles, freshmen
Shesang Patel and
Derek Porter won in the two slot 8-5.
Cypress improves to 4-2 and 1-0 in conference. They have no time off as they play two matches Saturday rescheduled from an earlier date. They will take on San Diego City at 9:00 am and then travel to Southwestern at 3:30 pm.
