Tuesday, 02/26/2013

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana men's tennis (4-5) knocked off Ball State (3-3) by a 6-1 score on Sunday. Josh MacTaggart recorded the 100th singles victory of his career in the match, becoming the third Hoosier all-time to reach the milestone. MacTaggart is eight wins shy of Sven Salumaa school record of 108, and six shy of Gunnar Salumaa's 106.

MacTaggart defeated Alexandre Brym 6-0, 6-2 at number three singles. MacTaggart moved his career record to 100-35. His accomplishment is even more impressive when you consider he has 35 career losses, compared to 61 for Sven Salumaa and 64 for Gunnar Salumaa.

In doubles, the Hoosiers took the point with a sweep of all three matches. Isade Juneau and Sam Monette won 8-4 at number one and MacTaggart and Daniel Bednarczyk won 8-5 at number two to clinch the point. The Hoosiers completed the sweep as Dimitrije Tasic and Chris Essick won 8-7 at three.

In singles play, Tasic was the first to finish, knocking off Imanol Arconada 6-1, 6-1 at number four. MacTaggart was next at number three. The third match to finish saw IU's Elliott Yee fall 6-1, 6-3 to Austin Smith, tallying the only point for the Cardinals.

Bednarczyk finished next, defeating Patrick Elliott 7-6, 6-2. Monette then rallied from a loss in the first set to take a 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 win over Dalton Albertin. Juneau did the same at number one, rallied from a tiebreaker loss in the first to Ray Leonard at number one to win, 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-4).
