Knights battled past PSU-Berks

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann College men’s tennis team defeated Penn State Berks, 6-3, Thursday night  in a non-conference match up. The win boosted the Knights to a 9-3 overall record so far this season.

The Nittany Lions swept two of three doubles points. The duo of Dan Harnos and Chris Brown gave the Knights their lone point at 2nd doubles, defeating Billy Campbell and Brendan Penn 8-1.  David Pfister and Brian Crispin battled at 1st doubles but lost to Patrick Bhanebandh and Andrei Bacalu 7-9. The team of Abraham Joseph and Greg Bridgeman fell to Brian Gottshall and Andy Miller 8-6.

The Knights bounced back to claim the match by nailing down wins in five of the six singles points.  Pfister fell to Bhanebandh 6-1, 6-2 at first singles. Chris Brown triumphed over Bacalu at second singles 6-2, 6-4.  Brian Crispin battled to win his first set in a tie breaker, and won the match over Campbell 7-6(3), 6-1.  Greg Bridgeman bounced back from doubles and defeated Penn 6-2, 6-1. Dan Harnos clinched the match for the Knights rolling Gottshall 6-1, 6-3. Klenk rounded out of win for the Knights winning over Dan Kuzo 6-3, 6-4.

Coach Goose stated “I am extremely proud of the team today, we fell behind 1-2 in doubles, against a very strong PSU-Berks team. The team came together and played superb in singles competition. Coming back from a 1-2 doubles deficit showed a lot of maturity and character.”

The Knights return back to action tomorrow when they travel to Gwynedd Mercy College for a conference contest. The match is set to start at 4:00.
