Thursday, 04/30/2009

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Neumann College men’s tennis team won its second straight conference title with a 5-0 win over Gwynedd-Mercy Saturday morning.

Neumann opened the match, taking all three doubles. Chris Brown and Dan Harnos picked up the first point in second doubles, defeating Lou Vessels and Jared Morgan, 8-3. Greg Bridgeman and Steve Klenk won the second point in third doubles, winning 8-6 over Ryan Murray and Chris Keown.  David Pfister and Brian Crispin completed the sweep over Scott Campbell and Eric Trinkle at first doubles, 8-4.

Brown won the fourth point of the match in second singles, 6-2, won by injury default. Pfister clinched the title with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Campbell at first singles.

Coach Goose stated, “The 2009 Neumann men’s tennis team was truly a dominant team. We posted some incredible statistics along the way, such as not dropping a single point in CSAC competition all year long. But this team’s ultimate goal was to win the championship and make a return trip to the NCAA tournament.  I am extremely proud of this team, and I hope they understand the incredible season that they just completed in CSAC competition.”

This is the Knights second consecutive conference title and will receive the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) AQ for the NCAA Tournament. Before the NCAA’s, Neumann has a few more matches and the CSAC Individual Championships. Next for the Knights is a trip to Messiah College on Tuesday. The match is slated to start at 3:30 p.m.
