ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) – Using an all-around effort, the UCF women’s tennis team captured the doubles point and three singles victories to defeat Louisiana-Lafayette, 4-3, Friday. Freshman Alexis Rodriguez (Boca Raton, Fla.), freshman Christy Core (Charlotte, N.C.) and junior Katie Orletsky (Titusville, Fla.) used straight-set wins over the Ragin’ Cajuns (7-9) to improve the Knights’ record to 9-8.

Opening up the day, sophomore Jenny Frisell (Gothenberg, Sweden) and senior Elvira Serrot (Madrid, Spain) cruised by Julie Mazinova and Mia Gordon, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles. The tandem is ranked No. 27 in the latest Campbell/ITA Tennis Rankings holding a 10-4 record.

The Knights took the doubles point when Core and Orletsky teamed up at No. 3 for an 8-4 win over Marina Ruiz de Guana and Tara Vasovic. At No. 2, freshman Taylor Dubins (North Miami Beach, Fla.) played her first doubles match of the season partnering with Rodriguez, however, the duo lost, 8-3.

After UCF seized momentum from winning doubles, Rodriguez quickly put away Gordon at No. 4, 6-3, 6-0, to provide the Knights with a 2-0 lead. Taking a 3-1 advantage, Orletsky claimed a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6 over Vasovic. At No. 5 the match was sealed for the Knights, when Core posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Ruiz de Gauna.

With the win, the Knights cut into the Ragin’ Cajun all-time series lead to 2-1.

The Knights will host Jacksonville on April 1 at the UCF Tennis Complex. The first serve for UCF’s final home match of the season is scheduled for 3 p.m.
