ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) – Head coach Stephanie Nickitas announced on Thursday that Genevieve Lorbergs from Victoria, Australia, signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the UCF women’s tennis team. The Aussie will enroll in the fall and start competing for the Knights in the 2009-10 season.

“Gen will be a tremendous addition to our team next year,” said UCF head coach Stephanie Nickitas. “She will make an immediate impact for the team in singles and doubles. We are excited to have her join the Knights.”

Recently, Lorbergs participated in the 2009 KIA Amateur Australian Open and claimed the doubles title while finishing as the runner-up in the singles event. In 2008, she was selected to play in the highest level of competition in Australia with the Victorian State Grade Team named Beaumaris and received the best results on her team.

During the 2007 season, Lorbergs competed against teams from all the Australian States and Territories for the Victorian Secondary School’s team. The squad also played in Perth, Western Australia, where she went undefeated and earned a spot on the Australian Merit Team for the second-consecutive year.

Lorbergs graduated from McKinnon Secondary College in Victoria, Australia. The tennis star also was a standout athlete who participated in cross country, basketball, cricket, soccer, tennis and track and field. She represented her school at the Victorian State Championships in cross country and track and field. In 2007, she was honored by the Victorian Olympic Council for the International Pierre de Coubertin Award for her achievements in academics and sports and was chosen for the leadership role of School Sports Captain at McKinnon.
