PEORIA, Ill. - The Bradley women's tennis team will take to the courts after a week off of competition Friday, when the Braves open play at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships at Illinois State. Play begins Friday morning in Normal, Ill., with doubles action and continues through Sunday.
Friday's play is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. with doubles at the Gregory Street Tennis Courts, with the first round of singles play to follow. All eight Valley teams will be competing for titles in seven singles flights and three doubles flights during the weekend.
Senior Nicole Miller (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard West) will play with freshman Meredith McDonagh (Bryan, Ohio/Bryan) in the #1 Doubles Flight this weekend. Miller picked up victories in both singles and doubles play during the Bradley's season-opening tournament in Cedar Falls, Iowa, while McDonagh will be seeing her first doubles action of her collegiate career after earning a singles win in her first collegiate match at the UNI Fall Invite in September.
Sophomore Kennedy Scott (Calgary, Alberta/National Sports School) will see her first action of the Fall as she teams with freshman Sarah Rodefeld (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) in the #2 Doubles Flight. Rodefeld played with Miller in the season-opening event to go 1-1 in doubles play.
Freshman Ashley Roth (Birmingham, Mich./Birmingham Seaholm) and sophomore Brigitte Graf (Double Oak, Texas/Faustina Academy) will play together for the second consecutive tournament, competing in the #3 Doubles Flight.
In singles play, Miller is slated to face Wichita State's Lutfiana Budiharto in the opening round of the #1 Singles Flight, while Rodefeld will play last year's #5 Singles Flight champ Arianne Mack of Illinois State in the first round of the #2 Singles Flight.
In the #3 Singles Flight, McDonagh will play Drake's Amanda Aragon and Scott will take on Drake's Jessica Aguilera in a first-round match of the #4 Singles Flight. Graf will meet Creighton's Sarah Cadwallader Friday to open play in the #5 Singles Flight and Roth will play Sarah Cadwallader's sister Leesa in the #6 Singles Flight.
