FAU Women’s Tennis Drops a 6-1 Decision to No. 4 Lynn
Virginia Augustin earned the Owls Point
BOCA RATON, FL (February 3, 2009) – Florida Atlantic University’s women’s tennis team faced cross-town rival Tuesday afternoon at Lynn University with the no. 4 ranked Knights earning the 6-1 victory.
Play began with doubles which Lynn swept to earn the dual match doubles point. FAU’s no. 1 duo of Natalia Totevska and Dominique Wimmer faced off with Katerina Jiskrova and Magdalena Ekert who are currently the nation’s 13th ranked doubles team at the NCAA Division II level. Totevska and Wemmer fell 8-3. A similar fate would hit FAU’s Danielle Simone and Erika Mrazkova who were defeated by Jessica Yanoff and Eleonora Iannozzi ranked no. 7 nationally.
Singles play saw the first five FAU players exit the court on the down side. FAU’s Virginia Augustin, who played no. 6, was the final match of the day and was the first positive point for the Owls. Augustin defeated Andrea Derrari 6-4, 6-2. Augustin was one of just two Owls to face a player that was not ranked in the nation’s top-30.
FAU will next play host to UCF, 1 p.m., Saturday, February 7 at Patch Reef Park Tennis Center.
