BOCA RATON, FL (February 23, 2009) – Sophomore Virginia Augustin captured the lone point in Florida Atlantic University’s Monday 6-1 loss to Northwestern State University, 6-1.
Northwestern quickly grabbed the doubles point facing an FAU lineup that did not feature Dominique Wimmer who normally plays no. 2 singles. Wimmer’s absence forced new partners in doubles and changes in the singles line-up.
Natalia Totevska took Adna Curukovic to three sets at no. 1 but fell in a pro-set third set. Erika Mrazkova played up and had a hard fought first set only to fall 7-5, 6-1. Also moving up Emma Rossiter fell in straight sets.
At no. 4 singles Virginia Augustin captured the first set, forced a third set pro-set and picked up the victory after her opponent Bianca Schulz retired.
The Owls then fell in the final two matches for the 6-1 score.
