GAINESVILLE, Fla. (Feb. 6, 2011) --- The FIU women's tennis team (1-4) suffered a 7-0 loss at No. 2 Florida (4-0) on Sunday, Feb. 6, at the Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville, Fla.
The Panthers (No. 56) fell for the third time in as many games with each of the team's last three opponents ranked in the ITA Top 25.
Florida scored the first point of the contest, taking two-straight double matches as Giulietta Boha and Christine Seredni fell to Lauren Embree and Joanna Mather, 8-0, and Lisa Johnson and Rita Maisak lost to Caroline Hitimana and Alexandra Cercone, 8-2.
The Panthers dropped all six singles matches with the clinching match coming during UF's Mather (No. 30) defeating Johnson, 6-0, 6-2. In singles play, senior Liset Brito fell to Allie Will (No. 7), 6-3, 6-1, snapping a three-game winning streak for the Miami native. Embree downed Seredni, 6-0, 6-1, while Maisak was downed by Sofie Oyen (No. 96), 6-0, 6-1. Boha suffered her second loss in dual matches this season, falling 6-0, 6-3, to Olivia Jancowicz (No. 22). Senior Maria Spenceley fell in straight sets to Alexandra Cercone (No. 28), 6-1, 6-1.
FIU will travel to Coral Gables, Fla., to take on the Miami Hurricanes on Friday, Feb. 11. The match is set for noon.
