MIAMI (Oct, 15, 2011) --- The FIU women’s tennis team earned three more singles victories during the second day of the 2011 Panther Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the FIU Tennis Courts. Leading the way was freshman Sarah McLean, who picked up her second-straight win in impressive fashion.
The Miami, Fla., native won on straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, over North Florida’s Simona Weymar. Also picking up her second-straight victory was sophomore Giulietta Boha, who defeated UNF’s Danelle Day, 6-3, 6-3. Junior Rita Maisak earned her first win of the season, downing Melanie Aguirre, 6-4, 6-4. The Ospreys gathered two victories over the Panthers in singles play as Lisa Johnson lost to Aline Berkenbrock, 6-3, 6-2, and Christine Seredni fell to Lorena Aviles, 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles action, FIU earned a split, as the duo of Boha and Karyn Guttormsen defeated Florida Gulf Coast’s Jen Evans and Gyanna Mandic, 8-6, and the team of Johnson and McLean fell to FGCU’s Morgan Bechtel and Bettina Botha, 8-6.
FIU will close out 2011 Panther Invitational on Sunday, Oct. 16, facing North Florida in doubles competition beginning at 12:00 p.m. The Panthers will then square off with Barry in singles play beginning at 1:30 p.m.
