KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Indiana women’s tennis team had a successful day at the Western Michigan Invitational on Saturday going 8-2 overall on the day. The Hoosiers picked up six singles and two doubles victories on the day.
In singles, Leslie Hureau topped Maria Macedo of Iowa State, 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (10). Evgeniya Vertesheva was dominant over ISU’s Ksenia Pronina in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. Katie Klyczek, Shannon Murdy and Kayla Fujimoto were also triumphant in consecutive sets in each of their three matches against Cyclone opponents. Picking up IU’s sixth singles win over an Iowa State foe for the day was Ariel Beckerman over Carol Anderson, 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (7).
Fujimoto and Vertesheva picked up another doubles win over Western Michigan’s Jill Pasturniink and Maria Nivia, 8-6. Alecia Kauss and Sophie Garre also had success in their doubles match, topping WMU’s April Kerr and Caroline Aleck, 8-5.
The Hoosiers will conclude the WMU Super Challenge on Sunday with play beginning at 9 a.m.
