IU Women’s Tennis Wraps Up Play at WMU Super Challenge
Friday, 12/02/2011

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Indiana women’s tennis team wrapped up play at the Western Michigan Invitational on Sunday, which also concludes the fall schedule for the team.  The Hoosiers picked up five singles wins.

Sophie Garre was victorious in straight sets over Jenna Langhorst of Iowa State, 6-2, 7-5.  Evgeniya Vertesheva also had a good day, giving up just three games in a 6-0, 6-3 win over Louisville’s Rebecca Shine.  Freshman Katie Klyczek ended her fall the way she has played the entire schedule winning in consecutive sets, 6-3, 6-4.

Sophomore Kayla Fujimoto and Freshman Alecia Kauss were triumphant over a pair of Louisville opponents.  Fujimoto defeated Mandy Brown, 7-6 (5), 6-4 and Kauss topped Amelia Harris, 6-1, 6-1.

“We accomplished what we needed to this weekend. We had several players that missed one of our first two tournaments, and they all played a lot of matches,” head coach Lin Loring said. “We were also able to further evaluate our doubles teams, which was really helpful. After our January invitational I think we will be ready to start the dual match season.”

The Hoosiers will not compete again until January with the IU Winter Invitational on Jan. 14-16.
