#71 Shocks Blast Bronchos, 7-0

WICHITA -- The Wichita State women's tennis team dominated the lower singles positions and swept the doubles point in a 7-0 rout of Central Oklahoma Sunday afternoon at Genesis Health Club.

The Shockers took the early advantage in the match by winning the doubles point in a 3-0 sweep. Stephanie Dalmacio and Laryssa Ferreira defeated UCO's Audrey Donovan and Lacy Caldwell 8-3 in the No. 1 doubles match, while Anna Egorova and Torrie Browning downed the Broncho tandem of Julie Vo and Amy Cabato, 8-2, in the No. 2 doubles match. Florentina Hanisch and Lenore Lazaroiu completed the sweep with an 8-2 defeat of UCO's Julia Shviadok and Elisaberta Abramovic in the No. 3 match.

Ferreira opened play with a straight set, 6-1, 6-1, win over Abramovic in the No. 6 sinlges match, while Lazaroiu dominated Cabato in the No. 5 match, 6-0, 6-2. Hanisch clinched the win for WSU, picking up the decisive fourth point in the No. 4 match with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Caldwell.

With the match already decided, Egorova won the No. 1 doubles match, 6-1, 7-5, over UCO's Shviadok, while Dalmacio withstood an early charge by Vo, and held on for a 7-5, 6-1 win in the No. 2 match. 

Battling an ankle injury sustained in her first set, Torrie Browning needed a third set tiebreaker, but held off an upset bid from Donovan in the No. 3 match, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (12-10).

Wichita State is back in action Tuesday when they travel across town to take on Newman. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be played at Wichita's Riverside Tennis Center.
