La Holla, CA (3/2/09) – In their final match of their first mainland road trip, the Lady Sea Warrior tennis team fell to UC-San Diego, 5-4. HPU drop their first match of the season and fall to 3-1, while UCSD improve to 5-2.

HPU trailed 2-1 after doubles play. In one doubles, the team of Ingrid Cseh and Zora Vlckova defeated Ina Dan and Taskeen Bains, 8-6, for their lone doubles victory.

In singles play, Vlckova and Tinka Mihova won in one and two singles, respectively. Vlckova topped Natalie Varney 6-1, 6-2, and Mihova defeated Dan 6-3, 6-1.

Fierce battles took place in three and six singles with HPU coming up on the short end of the stick in both. Cseh was topped by Anita Athavale in three singles 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, and Tessa Tran came back to defeat Lauren Shin 4-6, 6-1, 7-5.

There will be no rest for the weary for the Sea Warriors. After spending a day traveling, HPU will play host to Presbyterian College on Wednesday, Mar 4. Match time is set at 9:00 a.m. at Central Oahu Regional Park.
