Honolulu (10/8/09) – The HPU women's tennis team opened the first day of competition at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational. Four HPU players were in action for the three-day tournament held at the UH Tennis Complex.
The Invitational includes teams from Texas State, HPU, and host UH-Manoa, and features both a singles and doubles format.
Doubles action saw the HPU pairs of Tinka and Nina Mihova, and Zora Vlckova and Ingrid Cseh both victorious. The Mihova tandem topped the UH pair of Dasha Lagmay and Mari Tadaki, 9-7. Vlckova and Cseh won 8-4 over Texas State’s Nyssa Peele and Melissa Hadad.
HPU played four singles matches, all against Texas State. Vlckova defeated Peele, 6-1, 6-0 for the lone HPU singles win. Nina Mihova fell to Kiki Kruse (6-1, ret.), Tinka Mihova was defeated, 6-0, 6-0, by Hadad, and Cseh dropped a 7-5, 6-3 result to Mariana Perez.
The three-day tournament continues Friday, 3:00 p.m. and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
