Tuesday, 04/03/2012

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Junior Leslie Hureau was named Big Ten women’s tennis Athlete of the Week on Tuesday by the conference office.  It is the second time in her career to earn this honor, as Hureau went a perfect 2-0 in the No. 1 singles position over the weekend for the Hoosiers.

Hureau, currently ranked No. 99 nationally, earned her first victory of the weekend on Saturday over Michigan State’s Olga Chernova, dominating that match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.

On Sunday, Hureau picked up her biggest singles win of the season as she topped No. 10 Emina Bektas of Michigan.  Hureau cruised in the first set, 6-2.  Bektas fought back to take the second set, 4-6, before Hureau showed her strength to win the decisive final set, 6-1.  It was her first win over a top 10 opponent in singles play this season.

The Annecy-le-Vieux, France, native is currently 17-7 in singles play for the entire 2011-12 season.  Hureau has been victorious in seven consecutive singles matches and has won nine of her last 10.  She is a perfect 5-0 in Big Ten matches.

The Hoosiers will host a pair of matches this weekend as Iowa visits on Saturday, April 7, followed by Nebraska on Sunday, April 8.  Both matches will begin at 11 a.m. ET at the IU Tennis Complex.
