IU Tennis with a Productive Saturday at Adidas Hoosier Classic

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The second day of the Adidas Hoosier Classic saw Indiana pick up six wins in singles and six wins in doubles on Saturday afternoon.

In the top singles draw, all three Hoosiersparticipating picked up wins in the round robin format.  No. 50 Leslie Hureau stayed perfect on the weekend with a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (7) win over Notre Dame’s Quinn Gleason.  Alecia Kauss also remained 2-0 for the tournament, defeating Colorado’s Winde Janssens, 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (8).  Katie Klyczek won in straight sets over Molly O’Koniewski of Notre Dame, 6-4, 7-6 (7).

Sophie Garre picked up her first win of the fall in the second singles flight over Kansas State’s Ana Gomez Aleman in dominating fashion, 6-1, 6-3.  In the third singles flight, Shannon Murdy dropped her first set before rallying for the win over Purdue’s Gisella Pere, 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (11).  Rounding out the Hoosier singles victories for the day was newcomer Gabrielle Rubenstein with her straight set win over Miranda Erisman of KSU, 7-6 (2), 6-1.

In doubles, sophomores Klyczek and Carolyn Chupa went 2-0 on the day to take the consolation title of the tournament.  IU’s Rubenstein and Jithme Jayawickrema also had two wins together for the afternoon.  Hureau and Garre teamed together for one win as Kauss and Murdy werealso victorious together.

The final day of the Adidas Hoosier Classic will take place on Sunday, Sept. 30, with play beginning at 10:30 a.m. ET.
