BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Leslie Hureau, a junior on the Indiana women’s tennis team, earned First Team All-Big Ten recognition by the conference coaches on Thursday. Hureau has been named to the all-conference team in each of her three years at IU. Sophomore Sophie Garre was also recognized as Indiana’s Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree.
Hureau becomes the first Hoosier since Rachel Epstien (1993, 1994, 1995) to earn All-Big Ten honors in three consecutive seasons. Hureau ended regular season play with a 19-11 singles record, playing in the No. 1 position in 21 of those matches during the spring. The Annecy-le-Vieux, France, native garnered a 7-4 record in Big Ten matches this season, knocking off four nationally ranked opponents along the way.
Hureau is currently ranked No. 71 in the latest ITA Women’s National Singles Rankings. The junior defeated a top-10 opponent for the first time in her career on April 1, when she topped then-No. 10 Eminda Bektas of Michigan, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
The No. 7 seed Hoosiers defeated No. 10 seed Wisconsin in the opening round of the Big Ten Women’s Tennis Tournament on Thursday afternoon. IU will take on the No. 2 seed, Michigan, on Friday. That match will begin at 2 p.m. ET in Columbus, Ohio.
