Thursday, 04/05/2012

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 45 Indiana women’s tennis team will play at home for two matches this weekend for the second consecutive week. The Hoosiers will welcome No. 72 Iowa on Saturday, April 7, and then No. 17 Nebraska on Sunday, April 8. Both of those matches will begin at 11 a.m. ET.

The Hoosiers (14-5, 3-2) split their weekend matches last week.  IU topped Michigan State, 6-1, before falling in close one to then-No. 14 Michigan, 4-3.  Indiana has won three of their last four matches.

Iowa (7-9, 1-3) arrives in Bloomington after playing in back-to-back matches that had 4-3 outcomes last weekend.  The Hawkeyes topped then-No. 46 Penn State before falling to Ohio State.  Iowa boasts one ranked singles player in senior Sonja Molnar who sits at No. 115 nationally.

Sunday’s match with Nebraska (18-2, 4-1) will be the first between the two schools since the Huskers joined the Big Ten Conference.  Nebraska’s lone loss this year in conference play came at then-No. 50 Illinois on March 24 in a 4-3 decision.  Three NU players are ranked in the ITA National Singles Rankings, led by No. 40 Mary Weatherholt. Madeleine Geibert and Stefanie Weinstein team together in doubles for Nebraska and are ranked No. 40.
