Hoosiers Wrap Up Regular Season and Honor Seniors This Weekend

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – No. 47 Indiana (15-8, 4-5) will play it final matches of the regular season this weekend beginning with a road trip to No. 21 Illinois (15-6, 7-2) on Friday, April 20.  The Hoosiers and Fighting Illini will begin play at 4 p.m. ET from Champaign.  IU will then host No. 12 Northwestern (15-7, 8-1) on Sunday, April 22, at 11 a.m. ET in Bloomington.
 
Sunday’s battle with NU will mark the final time senior Evgeniya Vertesheva will play a match in Bloomington.  Vertesheva joined the Hoosier program beginning with her sophomore season in 2009-10.  She is a two-time First Team All-Big Ten honoree and the lone senior on the active roster this year for Indiana.
 
Illinois has won three consecutive matches and nine of its last 10 overall heading into Friday’s match with IU.  Allison Falkin leads the way for the Illini, cracking the top 100 in the latest ITA Women’s Tennis Singles Rankings, standing at No. 98 this week.  Illinois also has two doubles combos ranked in the top 60 nationally.
 
Northwestern begins play this weekend riding a seven-match winning streak with wins over No. 52 Penn State and No. 61 Ohio State last weekend.  The Wildcats can guarantee a share of the Big Ten regular season title with two wins this weekend.  NU boasts two players in the top 70 singles rankings.  No. 17 Kate Turvy leads the way for the Wildcats as Brittany Wowchuck ranks No. 67 nationally. On the doubles side, Kate Turvy and Belinda Niu own a record of 13-2 on the season.
