Pahl Moves to 215 Career Wins in Western Michigan Victory over Indiana State
Sunday, 03/15/2009

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Western Michigan senior women's tennis player Kerstin Pahl defeated Anna Morgina 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1 singles and teamed with Amanda Moccia to win 8-3 at No. 2 doubles against Indiana State. Pahl's wins increased her career total to 215, more than any men's or women's tennis player in Western Michigan history.

The No. 65 Broncos (13-4) won their third match in a row and increased their streak of regular season victories over unranked opponents to 40 in a row with the win, 5-2, over the Sycamores (1-8) in a match played outdoors at the Duane Klueh Tennis Complex.

Along with Pahl and Moccia's win at No. 2, Ashley Moccia and Jenny Nalepa won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles to give WMU the doubles point. The Sycamores have just five players and were forced to forfeit at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles, which gave WMU a 2-0 lead at the start of singles.

Pahl's win put WMU up, 3-0, but then Sarah Meghoufel defeated Emily Dudzik 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 to put Indiana State on the board, 3-1. Ashley Moccia clinched the match in the next match off with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Sofya Lifanova at No. 3.

Freshman Rachel Denny rounded out the scoring with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 victory over Aleksandra Dzakula at No. 5 singles.

The Broncos wrap up their three-match road swing at Marquette (12-6, 4-0 Big East) next Friday at 2 p.m. before beginning Mid-American Conference play at home against Bowling Green (7-2) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
