Pearl River Wildcats defeat 2009 MACJC Co-State Champions CoLin Wolves
The Pearl River Wildcats advanced to 3-0 with a win over last year's MACJC Co-State Champions, the CoLin Wolves.
The Wildcats pulled out to early lead, winning two of the three doubles' points. At number one, Blake Johnson of Lumberton, Mississippi, and Steven Bracey of Columbia, Mississippi, fell to CoLin's Chicho Chaves and Reilly Miller 8-1. At number two doubles, Jordan Henry of Petal, Mississippi, and Darnelle Sanford of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, defeated CoLin's Nico Osorio and Reed Rodgers 8-4. At number three doubles, Roy Odom of Gautier, Mississippi, and Dustin Slade of Waveland, Mississippi, defeated CoLin's Colby Bass and Jon McLeod 9-7.
In singles action, the Wildcats dropped the first three matches to give CoLin the lead. Johnson fell to Osorio 6-3, 6-0 at the number one position. In the number two spot, Bracey was defeated by Chaves 6-3, 6-0. At number three, Henry fought back to take the match to a third set tiebreak but fell just short to Miller 6-1, 0-6, (10-7). The Wildcats claimed the next two points to tie up the match. At number four, Sanford defeated Rodgers 6-1, 6-1, and at number six, Slade defeated Bass 6-1, 6-1. Odom claimed the winning point for the Wildcats at the number five position, defeating Joey Shelton 6-1, 5-7, (10-7).
The Wildcats will travel to Biloxi to play Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. at the Biloxi Tennis Complex in a match that was postponed from Tuesday.
