USD to face Mississippi Thursday at 9:30 am

(San Diego, CA) - The 48th-ranked USD women's tennis team improved to 8-2 on the season with today's 5-2 victory over Texas-Arlington at the 2009 Barnes Collegiate Invitational being played at the Barnes Tennis Center. USD, the tourney's No. 1 seed, will face Mississippi (4 seed) Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. in one semifinal match; Ole Miss dealt New Mexico a 6-1 defeat this morning. No. 2 seed Utah and No. 3 seed Texas Tech will face off in the second semifinal Thursday. Texas Tech downed NAU 6-1 and Utah bested New Mexico State 6-1.

The Toreros won all three doubles matches to jump out to a 1-0 lead in the match against Texas-Arlington. All three wins were by identical scores of 8-6. USD earned singles victories from Juliette Coupez at No. 1 (6-1, 7-6 over Monika Hadvigerova), Samantha Mouly at No. 2 (6-1, 6-1 over Klara Jagosova), Tammy Kevey at No. 4 (6-1, 6-4 over Katarina Mlcochoa) and Maria Raygada at No. 6 (6-3, 6-4 over Nicola Matovicova).

The three-day tournament continues Thursday. Besides the two semifinal matches, the two 12:30 p.m. matches will pit Texas-Arlington vs. New Mexico and Northern Arizona vs. New Mexico State.
