Pullman, Wash. - The USD Women's Tennis team captured their 10th win of the season Sunday morning against the Cougars of Washington State. The Toreros snapped a four match losing streak with the win.
San Diego managed to sweep all three doubles matches, taking the initial advantage in to singles play. For the second straight match, freshman Juliette Coupez and sophomore Milou Teeling teamed up at the No. 1 spot, taking down Aleksandra Cekic and Ekaterina Kamendova, 8-5. On Court 2, freshman Maja Sujica and senior Tammy Kevey earned a win over Bianca Selaru and Marina Nicolas by a final of 8-0. Finally, freshman Marite Raygada and junior Justine Perl wrapped up the sweep with a 8-4 victory against Elisabeth Fournier and Jessica Gomez.
The Toreros picked up four singles points at No. 1 (Coupez def. Kamendova, 6-1, 6-3), at No. 3 (Kevey def. Fournier, 7-6 (4), 7-5), at No. 5 (Raygada def. Nicolas, 6-4, 6-2), and finally at No. 6 (Demidova def. Selaru, 6-1, 6-2).
Playing in her fifth singles match of the season, Teeling was unable to secure a win at No. 4, falling in straight sets (6-2, 6-1) to Ioana Oprea. The other missed point by the Toreros came at No. 2, as Sujica dropped the decision to Cekic, 0-6, 6-4, 1-0 ret.
San Diego will return home April 11th to face Washington at 10:00 a.m. PT on the USD West Tennis Courts.
