San Diego, Calif. (Barnes Tennis Center) - The University of San Diego Women's Tennis team took third place overall in the WCC Tournament after capturing a convincing win over USF Sunday afternoon at the Barnes Tennis Center in Point Loma. The Toreros swept the Dons with relative ease and will end their '09 spring campaign with a 13-9 record.

Playing the minimum two matches in doubles, San Diego quickly disposed of the Dons to take the point. USD's powerful pair in senior Tammy Kevey and Maja Sujica, which have accumulated 15 doubles wins in '09, trounced Julia Wartenburger and Alana McMahon, 8-1. Then at Court 1 to wrap up the point, the Torero tandem of freshman Juliette Coupez and Milou Teeling downed the Don duo of Jenni Heinser and Cecilia Gratian.

With equal dominance in singles, San Diego efficiently took care of its Don counterparts and ultimately
would capture a third place finish. Junior Alexandra Demidova kicked off singles play on Court 6 by defeating McMahon, 6-0, 6-2. Then sophomore Milou Teeling would follow with a victory at No. 4, downing Jessy Mekpoh in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, leaving San Diego in a position to clinch with one final win.

In very appropriate fashion, Kevey would do just that. The senior walked through her match against Wartenburger, topping her Don opponent by a final of 6-0, 6-0 and giving the Toreros their lucky #13 win of '09.
