San Diego, Calif. (Barnes Tennis Center) - The San Diego women netters opened First-Round WCC Tourney play by sweeping the Portland Pilots, 4-0. USD advances to the semifinal round on Saturday to face No. 3 seed St. Mary's at 3 pm.  No. 1 Pepperdine will take on NO. 4 USF at 11:30 am in the second semifinal.

The Torero tandems did their part early by winning the doubles point in just two matches. Senior Tammy Kevey and freshman Maja Sujica kicked off doubles play with a win at No. 2, defeating Jenna Tanzer and Stefanie Doolittle, 8-0. Freshman Juliette Coupez and sophomore Milou Teeling downed Portland's pair of Megan Sporndli and Lacey Pflibsen, 8-2, to wrap up the point for San Diego.

Only three singles matches were played, as the Toreros were able take the first three points for the match win. On Court 3, Kevey won her second match of the day by topping Tanzer in two quick sets, 6-1, 6-0. Junior Alexandra Demidova followed with a victory on Court 6, notching a win against Anna Gullickson in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Coupez capped the USD run with the final defeat at No. 1, pushing past Pflibsen, 6-3, 6-1.
