San Diego, Calif. - The University of San Diego Women's Tennis team dropped their second straight match this week, falling to the 38th ranked Boise State Broncos Thurs., Mar. 26th by a final of 6-1. Senior Tammy Kevey was the lone Torero to earn a win, increasing her singles win streak to seven straight matches.
The Broncos were able to secure an early lead by capturing the doubles point, sweeping all three matches. Moving to the No. 2 position for the first time this year, the Torero tandem, freshman Juliette Coupez and sophomore Samantha Mouly, dropped the decision to Klaudia Wlodarczyk and Vivien Silfany of Boise State, 8-2. Soon after, the team of Kevey and freshman Maja Sujica at No. 1 also fell 8-2 to their Bronco competitors, Pichittra Thongdach and Lauren Megale. Boise finished off the sweep on Court 3, as Bianca Jochimsen and Laura Baum defeated USD's pair of freshman Marite Raygada and junior Justine Perl, 8-6.
San Diego would not have much better results in singles, dropping five of six matches. Raygada was unable to keep her unbeaten streak alive, relinquishing a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Boise's Klaudia Wlodarczyk. On Court 3, Sujica fell to Silfany, 6-1, 6-3. The Broncos clinched the match win with the next victory at No. 2, as Mouly was unable to top #118 Megale, losing in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
On Court 1, Coupez fought to the end but was ultimately outlasted by #83 Thongdach, falling in three sets, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1. Following at No. 6, junior Alexandra Demidova lost to Baum, 6-3, 6-2.
The highlight for the Toreros came at the No. 4 position, where Kevey was able to earn the lone point for San Diego, defeating Bianca Jochimsen, 7-6 (2), 6-2.
San Diego will head out on their first road-trip of the season this Sunday, Mar. 29th, traveling to Malibu, Calif. to face the Waves of Pepperdine University in a 1:00 p.m. PT.
