Ducks Cut Down by Cougars
Tuesday, 03/24/2009

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Oregon women's tennis team lost a nailbiter, 4-3, at Washington State on Friday night at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingberry Fieldhouse.

The No. 57 ranked Ducks fall to 7-7 (1-4 Pac-10) on the year. WSU's victory avenges a 7-0 Oregon win earlier in the season in Eugene.

Oregon swept through the doubles point, winning all three matches to take a 1-0 lead to start the dual against the Cougars.

But the Cougars rallied back in singles play, winning at No. 1, 2, 3, and 5 singles to earn the victory.

Oregon earned points at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, with freshmen Madelie Janse van Resnburg and Trudie du Toit pulling out victories.

No. 1 singles proved to be the most important match of the day. While WSU's win at No. 5 singles clinched the match, it was the Ekaterina Kamedova's three set win at No. 1 that put the Ducks away.

Oregon will state in the state of Washington when they play Washington in Seattle.
